911 calls through InnoCaption

Learn how emergency calling works on InnoCaption

Providing our user community with accessible emergency calling is an important part of the InnoCaption service.

When you dial 911 using the InnoCaption app, your call is prioritized over other InnoCaption calls. All 911 emergency calls automatically default to a live stenographer (Human), regardless of your selected caption mode. If you prefer automated speech recognition (ASR) captioning, you can switch caption modes during the call by tapping the caption button at the bottom of the toolbar and selecting your preferred mode.

How your 911 call is routed

When you call 911 through InnoCaption, we use your mobile device's location to connect you to the appropriate 911 emergency call center. Although InnoCaption provides information to assist emergency personnel, the 911 operator may still ask you to confirm your name, callback number, and location. Always tell the operator your current location, including any apartment, suite, or unit number.

If your mobile device's location is unavailable, InnoCaption uses the emergency address registered in your app to route your 911 call. This is why it is important to keep your registered emergency address up to date, particularly if you move or regularly use InnoCaption from different locations.

You can review or update your registered emergency address in the InnoCaption app under Settings > Your Account > Emergency 911 Address.

Important reminders when calling 911

Even though InnoCaption provides information to assist emergency personnel, the 911 operator will still ask you to confirm your name, callback number, and location.

Always provide your current location to the 911 operator, including any apartment, suite, or unit number. This is especially important if you are calling from somewhere other than your registered emergency address.

We recommend keeping Location Services enabled for InnoCaption so your current location can be used for emergency call routing.

911 Calling Advisory: Calling 911 from a landline remains the most reliable method of reaching emergency response personnel. InnoCaption requires an active internet connection through Wi-Fi or cellular data service to place calls, including 911 calls. Emergency calling may be limited or unavailable during network outages, service disruptions, or other technical difficulties.
