Location permissions and 911 calling

Find out why we ask for access to your location and how that information is used for 911 calling purposes

When you install or update the InnoCaption app, you may be asked to allow the app to access your mobile device's location. We strongly recommend enabling Location Services so your current location can be used to route 911 emergency calls to the appropriate emergency call center. Precise location from your device's Location Services is accessed only when you place a 911 call. It is used only to route that call and help emergency responders locate you, and it is kept only in our records and logs of that emergency call. It is not used for analytics or any other purpose, and the app does not access your location in the background.

If you do not allow location access, you can still use InnoCaption, including to make 911 calls. However, if your device's location is unavailable, InnoCaption will use the emergency address registered in your app to route your 911 call. Because this address may differ from your actual location, it is important to keep your registered emergency address up to date and always confirm your location with the 911 operator.

How 911 calling works

When you dial 911 using the InnoCaption app, your call is prioritized ahead of other InnoCaption calls and automatically connected to a live stenographer for captioning, regardless of your default caption mode.

Your call is routed to the appropriate 911 emergency call center based on your mobile device's location or, if that information is unavailable, your registered emergency address.
