The Do Not Disturb (DND) feature on your phone allows you to block all incoming calls and notifications during specific times. However, if you want to ensure that you still receive calls from your most important contacts, you can allow calls from your Favorites while DND is active. Follow the steps below for iOS and Android to set this up.
For iOS Devices
To allow calls from Favorites while DND is active, follow these steps:
Set DND in iOS System Settings
Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
Scroll down and tap on Focus.
Tap on Do Not Disturb
Allow Calls from Favorites
Under People, select Allow Notifications From and choose Favorites.
Scroll down to the Allow Calls From section and select Favorites.
This ensures that calls from contacts marked as favorites will still come through, even if DND is active.
Add Contacts to Favorites
Open the Phone app and tap Contacts.
Select the contact you want to add, then tap Add to Favorites.
For Android Devices
To allow calls from Favorites while DND is active, follow these steps:
Set DND in Android System Settings
Open the Settings app on your Android device.
Tap on Sound > Do Not Disturb.
Allow Calls from Favorites
Tap on People, then select Calls.
Choose Starred to ensure calls from your favorite contacts will bypass DND.
Give InnoCaption App Permission
Open Settings on your Android device.
Tap Apps > Special app access.
Select Do Not Disturb Access.
Find and tap InnoCaption.
Toggle Allow Do Not Disturb to "on".
Confirm by selecting Allow.
Add Contacts to Favorites
Open the Contacts app.
Tap on the contact you want to add, and then tap the Star icon to mark them as a favorite.
Alternative Steps for Other Android Devices
Since Android settings can vary by manufacturer, follow these general steps if the above instructions do not match your device:
Set DND in Android System Settings
Open your device's Settings app.
Navigate to Notifications, Focus, or Sound & Vibration (depending on your Android version and device manufacturer).
Tap on Do Not Disturb or a similar option.
Find the "Calls" or "People" Section
Look for a section that allows you to customize which calls are allowed during Do Not Disturb.
This might be labeled Allowed during Do Not Disturb, Exceptions, or something similar.
Select "Favorite Contacts Only" or Similar
Within the Calls or People section, find the option that allows calls from specific contacts or groups.
Look for options like Favorite Contacts Only, Starred Contacts, or Priority Conversations.
Select the option that allows calls from your favorite contacts to bypass DND.
If you haven't already, add the contacts you want to allow to ring through Do Not Disturb to your favorites list.
This process varies depending on your phone's contact app but typically involves selecting a contact and then choosing Add to Favorites or a similar option.
