Learn how to open phone number links from websites and emails using InnoCaption Web

You can use InnoCaption Web to call phone numbers linked on websites or in emails. These clickable phone numbers are sometimes called phone links or tel: links.

Enable phone links in InnoCaption Web

Before using phone links, you need to grant your browser permission.

  1. Sign in to InnoCaption Web

  2. Click Settings

  3. Click Advanced features

  4. Under Click-to-call links, click Grant permission

  5. When your browser asks for permission to open tel links, click Allow

  6. Click the test phone number displayed below the Grant permission button to confirm that phone links are working

The test number will be sent to your InnoCaption Web dialer. You can return to your existing tab to confirm that the number appears.

Note for Windows users: You may also need to set Google Chrome as your default application for phone links. See the Windows instructions below.

How to use phone links

Once you've enabled phone links for InnoCaption Web:

  1. Click a linked phone number on a website or in an email

  2. Sign in to InnoCaption Web if prompted

  3. Review the phone number in the dialer and start your call

Clicking a phone link sends the number to InnoCaption Web. It does not automatically place the call.

If InnoCaption Web is already open

The phone number will be sent to your existing InnoCaption Web tab. A new tab may open confirming that the phone number has been sent to InnoCaption Web. Close the new tab, return to your existing InnoCaption Web tab, and continue your call.

Additional setup for Windows users

On Windows, Google Chrome must be set as the default application for TEL links.

If Chrome is not already your default, follow these steps:

  1. Open Windows Settings

  2. Go to Apps → Default apps

  3. Under Set a default for a file type or link type, enter TEL

  4. Select Google Chrome as the default application

Note: Google Chrome may only appear as an option after you've granted permission for phone links in InnoCaption Web. If Chrome is already the default for TEL links, no additional steps are needed.
